ISSUE OF A SILVER COLLECTOR COIN IN HONOUR OF THE POET DIMITRIS LIPERTIS
The Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) announces the issue of a silver collector coin with a nominal value of €5 in proof condition and issue year 2016. At the end of the announcement there is a link for purchasing this coin for the members of the Cyprus Numismatic Society.
DESCRIPTION OF ISSUE
This coin is issued to commemorate the Cypriot poet Dimitris Lipertis on the 150th anniversary of his birth. It is the second collector coin of the series of Cyprus collector coins dedicated to highly accomplished Cypriot poets. Dimitris Lipertis has been recognised as one of the most distinguished idiomatic (vernacular) Cypriot poets. Through his poetry, he depicted the spirit, manners and customs of the people of Cyprus, joy and sorrow, love and death. The coin, which depicts a portrait of the poet, has been designed by George Stamatopoulos. The coin was minted by the Greek Mint. The issue is limited to 1.500 coins. The selling price of each coin, including VAT, has been set at €42.
FEATURES AND SPECIFICATIONS OF THE COIN
Design: Obverse: The emblem of the Central Bank of Cyprus with a semi-circular inscription on the upper part from left to right of the words “CYPRUS”, “ΚΥΠΡΟΣ” and “KIBRIS” and the year “2016”. CENTRAL BANK OF CYPRUS EUROSYSTEM 2 Reverse: A composition depicting the portrait of the poet with a semi-circular inscription on the upper part from left to right of the phrase “∆ΗΜΗΤΡΗΣ ΛΙΠΕΡΤΗΣ ΠΟΙΗΤΗΣ 1866-1937”.
